Counterstrike

Counterstrike remains one of the most versatile and uncompromising forces in the harder side of drum & bass. Known for their razor-sharp production, they’ve carved out a unique sound by seamlessly blending elements from across the genre’s spectrum. This London/Prague-based duo has been pushing boundaries since the late '90s, excelling as producers, DJs, promoters, and label owners. With over 100 releases on some of the scene’s most respected labels—including Ram, PRSPCT, Let It Roll, and Position Chrome—they’ve consistently dominated the charts. Their tracks have landed in the Beatport D&B Top 10 and Main Top 20, earning support from heavyweights like Black Sun Empire, Audio, The Panacea, and Dieselboy. Global Impact Counterstrike’s relentless energy has taken them to stages in over 15 countries, tearing up dancefloors from Russia to Japan to Colombia. As founders of Algorythm Recordings, they’ve built a powerhouse label, hosting events across Europe and South Africa while signing groundbreaking artists like Audio, Limewax, and The Panacea. Their label releases consistently make waves, leaving an undeniable mark on the industry. Origins & Evolution The story began in 1995 when Justin Scholtmeyer made a pilgrimage from Cape Town to London after discovering jungle music. Landing a job at The End—one of the city’s most iconic clubs—he was immersed in the sound of Renegade Hardware. Sending mixtapes back to Eaton Crous in South Africa, the duo formed a transcontinental connection that led to the creation of Homegrown, a legendary event series widely recognized as the birthplace of South African drum & bass. Running for a decade with over 100 events, Homegrown welcomed genre-defining acts like Pendulum, Dieselboy, and Camo & Krooked. Signature Sound & Future Vision From their roots in dark, high-energy D&B, Counterstrike has expanded their sonic arsenal, embracing crossbreed, neuro, and raw, distortion-heavy bass. Their music draws inspiration from across electronic music while maintaining their signature hard-hitting edge. As their sound continues to evolve, one thing remains constant: Counterstrike is a driving force in modern drum & bass, and the movement they’ve built is only getting stronger. It’s time to pay serious attention.
